How to Send Puzzle Weekly to Your Device

Puzzle Weekly has been designed to look great on a wide variety of devices. As well as the printable section, the magazine includes all the puzzles in large format ready to be completed directly on your device.

The instructions on this page will help you load the magazine onto a variety of popular devices.

Jump to:

iPad / iPhone

Here's how to read Puzzle Weekly on an iPhone or iPad using built-in apps. For iPhone:

  1. When you receive the email, tap the PDF attachment to open it.
  2. Tap the share icon (square with up arrow).
  3. Select "Books" from the share options (Books is Apple's built-in app, pre-installed on all iPhones). The PDF will automatically be saved to your Books library.
  4. In Books, tap the PDF to open it.
  5. Look for the marker icon (a pencil in a circle) in the top right.
  6. To solve puzzles, choose your colour and line thickness then write directly with your finger. You can use two fingers to zoom in/out as needed. Tap the eraser tool to remove mistakes.

For iPads, follow the same steps as iPhone to open in Books. For a better solving experience on an iPad, use an Apple Pencil if you have one.

The iPad's larger screen and Pencil support make puzzle solving much easier. Palm rejection works automatically with Apple Pencil. Alternative styluses are also available, and some also support palm rejection.

If you don't want to use the built-in Books app, you can search the App Store for alternatives, including: Adobe Acrobat Reader, GoodNotes, or PDF Expert (not all apps are free).

Android Phones & Tablets

Here's how to read Puzzle Weekly on an Android phone using built-in apps:

  1. When you receive the email, tap the PDF attachment to download it.
  2. Open the downloaded PDF using your phone's built-in PDF viewer (usually called "Files" or "Documents").
  3. Once the PDF is open, look for the annotation tool - it's usually a pencil or marker icon in the top or bottom menu bar.
  4. To write answers, tap the pencil/marker tool, choose your colour, then use your finger to write directly on the puzzle. Many built-in PDF viewers let you adjust line thickness if needed.
  5. To erase mistakes, look for an eraser tool in the same menu as the pencil then tap and drag over what you want to remove.
  6. Save your progress by tapping the Save button (usually a disk icon) or it may save automatically. To return to the puzzle later, open your Files/Documents app and look in the Downloads folder or Recent files.

If your phone or tablet doesn't have a built-in reader for any reason, you can search the Google Play store for free PDF readers, including: Adobe Acrobat Reader or Xodo PDF Reader. Alternatively, Microsoft OneNote can open and annotate PDF files and is also free to download.
